Biographical History

The Connecticut Training School for Nurses was established in 1873 as an independent school charged with training nurses to provide service to the community. The school quickly developed a relationship with the New Haven Hospital. With financial assistance from the Rockefeller Foundation, the Yale School of Nursing superseded the Connecticut Training School for Nurses in 1926. The Connecticut Training School for Nurses is credited with publishing the first nursing textbook in 1879.
