Biographical History

Irving I. Herzberg was best known for his human interest photographic essays. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Jewish Museum and the Brooklyn Public Library. He founded the Trump Village Camera Club in Coney Island. Herzberg's most famous project was of the Hasidic community in Williamsburg. The photographs from this project were used to illustrate The Face of Faith: an American Hassidic Community by George Kranzler, published by the Baltimore Hebrew College in 1972. The photographs were also exhibited in various locations, and were used for a slide show. Herzberg traveled to Israel in 1971 and 1981 and the photographs from those trips were exhibited under the title "Israel: a study in contrasts." Herzberg also photographed street and subway scenes and sites in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
