Biographical History
Lewis McDonald Grizzard, Jr. (1946-1994), author, humorist, syndicated columnist and stand-up comedian, grew up in Moreland, Georgia (Coweta County). He was sports editor of the Athens Daily News while he was a student at the University of Georgia, executive sports editor of the Atlanta Journal, and briefly sports editor of the Chicago Sun Times. In 1977 he came back to Georgia and began writing for the Atlanta Constitution. He was the author of numerous books, many of them based on material from his newspaper columns. Because of a congenital heart defect, he had three open-heart surgeries, and also wrote about these in columns and books.
