Biographical History

The Committee on the Cause and Cure of War began in 1925 with a Conference on the Cause and Cure of War, called by Carrie Chapman Catt and representatives of nine women's organizations after the American rejection of the League of Nations. Calling for peace and disarmament, the Committee met annually until 1939; Catt served as chair until 1932. In 1940 the name was changed to the Women's Action Committee for Victory and Lasting Peace, and later to the Committee on Education for Lasting Peace.
