Biographical History
William "Bill" Joseph "Tiger" O'Reilly, acknowledged by Donald Bradman as Australia's greatest bowler, grew up as a cricketer in Wingello, NSW, but went to Sydney in 1924 to study as a teacher. His Test debut for Australia came in 1931 against South Africa playing 27 Tests until 1946 as well as playing Sheffield Shield cricket until 1943 taking 203 wickets for N.S.W. at 17.10 from just 33 matches. Yet because of the adultation given by the public to Donald Bradman, Australia's most famous batsman, O'Reilly and other great cricketers of this period never received the recognition for their outstanding skills and indeed he and three other cricketers were censured for disloyalty to the Australian Test captain. Retiring from cricket in 1946 he spent the next 42 years as a sports journalist and cricket commentator and was known for his strong views on developments in the game of cricket.
