Biographical History

John Thomas Brackenridge (1828-1906), a graduate of Indiana State University and Bloomington Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1851. He worked as a lawyer and merchant in Boonville, Indiana, 1851-1854, before moving to Texana, Texas where he was also a merchant, 1854-1861. Brackenridge joined the Confederate Army in 1862 and served as both a captain of cavalry and a major. After the Civil War, in 1866 Brackenridge worked as a cashier at the San Antonio National Bank and by 1877 became president of the First National Bank of Austin. He died in 1906.
