Biographical History

The Vanderbilt Aid Society first met, as the Ladies Aid Society for Students of Vanderbilt University, on Feb. 27, 1894. Chancellor James Kirkland had proposed a women's auxiliary to help raise funds for worthy students who could not otherwise remain enrolled in the university. The name was changed in 1900. More than 5000 students have received loans from the Society's fund for well over 100 years.
