Thornton, Lenox T.

Lenox T. (Tom) Thornton served in the United States Army during World War II and later graduated from Georgia Tech in 1948. He then went on to earn a degree in Journalism from Emory University. He earned his teaching certificate in 1957 and taught at Cross Keys High School in DeKalb County, Georgia from 1958 to 1975. Thornton is known for his courthouse photographs. He has photographed over 1000 courthouses across the country. In 1980, Lenox T. Thornton donated 330 acres of forest land to the University of Georgia. This forest land is now known as the Thompson Mills Forest. In 1991, Thompson Mills Forest was designated as the state's official arboretum.
