Ione Easter Burden, Pike Burden, and Steele Burden, the principal creators and the children of Ollie Steele and William Pike Burden, were prominent Baton Rouge philanthropists.
Ione Burden served as Assistant to the Dean of Student Affairs and Assistant to the Dean of Women (1933-1947) and Director of Student Activities (1948-1961) at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She and her brothers donated family land for the establishment of Burden Research Plantation, Ollie Steele Burden Manor, Windrush Gardens, and the LSU Rural Life History Museum.
Steele Burden worked for the city of Baton Rouge and LSU as a landscape architect and played a pivotal role in the founding and development of the LSU Rural Life History Museum. Pike Burden, a local printer had an amateur magic act, and his primary charity was Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
