Biographical History
In 1945 the Minneapolis Family and Children's Service was created through the merger of the Family Welfare Association and the Children's Protective Society, both of which already had undergone corporate changes. The Family Welfare Association had been created in 1922 from the Associated Charities (est. 1884), while the Children's Protective Society originated in 1917 when the Juvenile Protective League (est. 1906) took over the children's investigations that had previously been handled by the Humane Society as well as continuing JPL work.
