Biographical History
The Florida State University Faculty Action Caucus (FAC) was a campus organization formed in 1968 during the period of nationwide campus unrest. Its purpose was to provide an opportunity for concerned faculty and other members of the university to organize for cooperative action when emergencies occured on campus and in the Tallahassee community. During that period, there were occasional threats to the academic freedom and civil liberties of members of the university community. The FAC also provided a forum for meaningful dialogue between faculty, students, staff, and administration on subjects of mutual concern, and it proposed programs of reforms to enable the university to more fully achieve its mission. Some of the issues documented in this collection which the FAC undertook were rights of African-American students, suppression of student academic freedom, personnel and health problems at FSU's Health Center, the student conduct code, questions on student application for admission forms, and the suspension of students protesting the presence of Marine Corps recruiters on campus.
