Charles D. Marx was professor of civil engineering at Stanford University from its founding in 1891 to his retirement in 1923. After his retirement he was a consultant on many engineering projects, including serving on the technical board of the San Francisco-Alameda County Bridge Commission.
Charles D. Marx was professor of civil engineering at Stanford University from its founding in 1891 to his retirement in 1923. He graduated from Cornell University in 1878 and worked as an engineer before joining the Cornell faculty in 1884. After his retirement from Stanford, he was a consultant on many hydraulic and sanitary engineering projects. His other positions included trustee for the city of Palo Alto, Calif., president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and first chairman of the California State Water Commission.
