Biographical History
In 1964, the central administration at Northwestern University established the Committee on Educational Policies (CEP). This committee was composed of nine members appointed by the president from a list of nominees, submitted by the General Faculty Committee. The members of CEP were chosen from a wide array of academic departments. The initial committee was formed to balance the decision-making of the administration and of the faculty in academic and budgetary decisions. In a directive to the new committee, Dean of Faculties Payson S. Wild outlined its charge “to assist the administration and represent the faculty on major educational problems.” The Committee on Educational Policy served under that name until 1982 when the University Senate formed the Educational Policies Advisory Committee (EdPac), which replaced both the Committee on Curriculum and Teaching and the Committee on Educational Policies. (From Northwestern University, A History, 1850-1975, by Harold F. Williamson and Payton S. Wild, 1976.)
