Biographical History
Florence Irene Fritz, born in 1901, was an author, publisher, and Florida historian. Her articles and books covered the Everglades, the
Seminole Indians, early Florida pioneers, and other aspects of southwest Florida history.
For over eighteen years she produced a tourist brochure, Hello Stranger! which she
distributed throughout the United States. In addition to her many publications, Fritz
worked as a caseworker among homesteaders and the Seminole Indians, as a realtor in
southwest Florida, and as the first woman mayor of Fort Myers. She participated in
many organizations, including the Florida Historical Society, the Southwest Florida
Historical Society, the Red Cross, and the Junior Red Cross. Florence I. Fritz died on May 17, 1969.
