Biographical History
Army officer.
James O'Fallon (1749-1794) was born in Ireland and studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He arrived in North Carolina in 1774 and served in the Revolution, first as a soldier and later as a senior Surgeon. After the war he moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where he practiced medicine and became involved in various state politics. In 1790 he was appointed General Agent of the South Carolina Yazoo Company and went to Kentucky to arrange for colonizing a tract near the mouth of the Yazoo River. After the failure of O'Fallon' political ventures, he practiced medicine in and about Louisville. In 1791, he married Frances Eleanor Clark, the sister of General George Rogers Clark.
