Mrs. Nancy Davenport was the mother of Mrs. Ann Crittenden and Mrs. Nancy D. Harvey. John Crittenden, from Notasulga, Alabama, was a schoolteacher before enlisting as a First Sergeant in Co. E of the Thirty-Fourth Alabama Infantry Regiment in March 1862. During the Battle of Nashville (1864), he went missing in action and presumed killed. His brother, William D. Crittenden, enlisted in the 1st Alabama Cavalry but received a medical discharge in 1863.
