Biographical History
General, politician, and businessman. Born 1843 in Mexico City; died 1904 in Toluca, Mexico. José Vicente Villada left his small business in Pachuca in 1857 during the War of Reform to enlist in the conservative forces of General Miquel Miramón. During the French intervention Villada joined the republican forces and fought against the French. After the restoration of the republic, he was a deputy to the fifth and sixth congresses. From 1871 to 1873 he campaigned for the election of Vicente Riva Palacio as president of the Supreme Court of Justice. In 1885 Villada founded the newspaper El Partido Liberal and afterwards directed publication of the magazine La Revista Universal. From 1889 to 1895 and from 1897 to 1904 he served as governor of the state of Mexico.
