Cartoonist. Born in Stamford, Texas, moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1925.
Attended Texas Technological College in 1941 and 1945-1946. Received BFA degree from Syracuse University in 1949. Creator of cartoon series "Dr. Bill", published 1959-1963, and "Amy", which began publication in 1963. "Dr. Bill" character was based on Lubbock, Texas cardiologist Dr. William H. Gordon. Tippit was a founding member of the Magazine Caroonists Guild. He served in World War II and toured Vietnam in 1967 as part of a group of six cartoonists entertaining troops there. Recipient of the Texas Tech University Distinguished Alumnus Award, 1968.
