Organized in 1881 from the consolidation of Louisville, New Albany, and St. Louis Railway Company with Evansville, Rockport, and Eastern Railway Company; main line opened from New Albany, Ind., to Mount Vernon, Ill., in 1882 (254 miles); reorganized in 1886 as Louisville, Evansville, and St. Louis Railroad Company.
