Biographical History
Missionary, State Department specialist, professor, author; born Kenneth Perry Landon, March 27, 1903; graduated from Wheaton College (Ill.), 1924; married Margaret Mortenson, June 1926; with Margaret, served in Thailand as missionaries, 1927-1937; completed Ph. D. at the University of Chicago, 1938; dissertation later published as, Siam in Transition; specialist on Southeast Asia for the U.S. State Department, 1941-1965: his posts included serving on the National Security Council, 1954-1960, lecturer for Country Team Seminar, 1961-1963, and Associate Dean of the Foreign Service Institute's language and area studies program, 1963-1965; professor at American University, 1965-1973; died August 26, 1993. Margaret Landon: missionary, author; born Margaret Dorothea Mortenson, September 7, 1903; graduated from Wheaton College (Ill.), 1925; missionary to Thailand until 1937; headmistress of Anakul Satri Girl's School during that time; wrote fiction and nonfiction; her most significant novel, Anna and the King of Siam, published in 1944 and adapted into a film and the musical, The King and I; died on December 4, 1993.
