Biographical History
Camp Abena was an all-girls camp in the Belgrade Lakes region, Maine. It was sold ca. 1963 for development. Elizabeth Plimpton compiled the information. She was also a counselor at the camp from ca. 1935-1950.
At one time Oregon had over 700 wooden covered bridges. Today there are about 48, many of which are original historic bridges. The Covered Bridge Society of Oregon sponsored a safari in 1990 which visited most of the bridges in the state during a five-day trip. Elizabeth Plimpton of Newton, Mass., attended the safari.
Elizabeth Plimpton, a one-time resident of Newton, Mass., traveled extensively throughout the U.S., taking numerous photographs of covered bridges. In addition, as a member of several covered bridge organizations, she attended bridge safaris as far afield as Oregon, and collected postcards of covered bridge scenes.
