Biographical History
Donald Hilary Connolly (1886-1969) was born in Fort Mojave, Arizona. In 1910 he graduated from West Point and commissioned with the Army Corps of Engineers. After graduating from the Command and General Staff School in 1923 and the Army War College in 1929, he taught at the Command and General Staff School until 1934. Then he was the officer in charge of the Works Progress (later Work Projects) Administration in Southern California. In 1939 he became commander of the 2nd Engineers. From 1940 to 1941, he was administrator of civil aeronautics in the Department of Commerce. He made brigadier general in January 1941. During his service at the Army Air Force headquarters in 1942, he rose to the rank of major general. From 1942 to 1944, he was commander of Persian Gulf Command and, from 1945 to 1946, a member of the Army-Navy Liquidation Commission. He retired in February 1948. His decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal and Legion of Merit.
