Biographical History

John J. Crittenden, a prominent Kentucky statesman, and Hamilton Fish, a New York statesman, served in the United States Senate during the 1850's. They both worked to preserve the Union.

James McHenry was the fourth choice for the position of Secretary of War in 1796. He received the position and won the President's esteem in cabinet meetings. He used his influence in the patronage system.
