Biographical History

Max Schultze joined the University of Minnesota Dept. of Agricultural Biochemistry in 1946, and taught for 28 years, retiring as professor emeritus in 1974. His research was broadbased, ranging from animal nutrition to the biochemistry of toxic substances.

Max O. Schultze, B.S. (1932), M.S. (1934), Ph.D. (1936) University of Wisconsin-Madison. Professor of biochemistry (1946-1974), vice chairman of intercollegiate athletics committee (1957-1974), University of Minnesota. Max Schultze was born in Switzerland on 6 May 1906. He received a B.S. degree in 1932, M.S. in 1934 and Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1936, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his career at the University of Minnesota in 1946 as a professor in the Department of Agricultural Biochemistry. His research ranged from animal nutrition to biochemistry of toxic substances. In 1957, he was named the vice chairman of the intercollegiate athletics committee. Schultze retired in 1974, after 28 years at the University, at the age of 67. On 25 March 1998, he died in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 91.
