Lawyer at Kalamazoo, Michigan and Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, 1863-1865.
Born at Sandisfield, Mass, Mar. 22,1830; moved with parents to Richland, Mich., 1834; studied at Kalamazoo branch of University of Mich.; stud. law & was admit. to the bar 1854; became assoc. polit. ed. of Detroit Daily Tribune 1850-56; prosec. attorney of Kalamazoo Co., 1860-63; raised first volunteer company of Kalamazoo & was comm. captain; lieut. governor of Mich., 1863-64; president at Republ. state convention, Detroit, 1866; became Democrat, 1877; on account of poor health retired from active practice, 1888; died Mar.25, 1901.
