Biographical History

Aram Saroyan published, edited, sometimes illustrated and contributed to Lines which was a poetry magazine that existed for six issues from Sept. 1964- Nov. 1965. The son of writer and playwright, William Saroyan, the younger Saroyan's career as a poet was established in the early 1960's, and his one-word poem "lighght" won a National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Award . His published work in poetry, fiction and non-fiction has spanned the last forty years.

Lines was a 28 cm., black and white, stapled edition which was published somewhat irregularly over its 2-year existence at .75 cents/issue. Covers featured black and white illustrations, and one issue includes photos of contributors, some of which may be of the persons listed in their captions, others obviously are not. It favored poetry that tended toward the free form and period experimental styles, and its contributors included many noted poets of the time.

Note: Copies of the magazine are not part of this archive but are available in the Fales Collection.
