Biographical History

The Penn State Players, an on-campus theatrical group, was founded in 1919 and held their first performance in 1920 under the direction of Arthur C. Cloetingh. The Players performed a variety of shows in many different genres, from one-act comedies to William Shakespeare's The Tempest. The Players eventually evolved into what is today's School of Theater in the College of Art and Architecture.
