Edgerton, Glen E. (Glen Edgar), 1887-1976

Glen Edgar Edgerton (1887-1976) was born in Parkerville, Kansas. He earned a B.S. from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1904. After graduating from West Point in 1908, he commissioned in the Corps of Engineers. During World War I, he served as a division engineer in the 14th Division. In 1924 he graduated from Command and General Staff School. From 1936 to 1940, he was engineer of maintenance at the Panama Canal. While serving as Governor of the Panama Canal, from July 1940 to May 1944, he rose to the ranks of brigadier general in October 1940 and major general in March 1942. From 1944 to 1945, he was director of materiel at Army Service Forces. He retired from active duty in April 1949. From 1949 to 1952, he headed the White House renovation as executive director of the Commission on the Renovation of the Executive Mansion. His decorations included two Distinguished Service Medals and the Legion of Merit.
