Leroy Earl Loemker (1900-1985), chairman of the Philosophy Department at Emory University (Atlanta, Ga.) from 1929-1971, taught philosophy and spent his career translating and studying German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz, the 17th century, and intellectual history.
