Biographical History
Sir Richard Spencer was Government Resident in Albany 1833-1839. He bought Strawberry Hill Farm at Albany, and developed a farm also at Hay River, north west of Albany. His wife, Lady Anne Warden Spencer (nee Liddon), carried on after the tragic death of her husband and two sons (Hugh Seymour and Horatio William) in 1839-1840.
Government Resident in Albany 1833-1839. He bought the government farm, Strawberry Hill, well-known now as an historic home overseen by the National Trust, and did much to stimualte the development of the district. Strawberry Hill was carried on by his widow and family until it was sold to Francis Bird in 1889. One of his daughters married Sir George Grey, and another married G.E. Egerton Warburton.
Sir Richard Spencer was Government Resident in Albany 1833-1839.
