Biographical History

The Taylor family is one of the oldest, most wide spread, and prominent families in Kentucky. Immigrants from Virginia, family members settled throughout the state. Colonel Richard Taylor and his brother, Hancock, explored the Ohio River Valley and were among the earliest to descend the river to New Orleans. Hubbard Taylor surveyed much of the state and laid out the city of Newport, in 1780. Zachary Taylor became the 12th president of the United States. The Taylor's were participants in the Revolutionary War and married into other prominent Virginia and Kentucky families. Through Revolutionary War grants, land grants, and marriage, various family members eventually held large tracts of land in both states.
