Biographical History
Kathleen Hale was born May 24, 1898, in Scotland and died January 26, 2000, in Bristol, England. She was an illustrator and author, and the creator, writer, and illustrator of numerous children's books, including the "Orlando the Marmalade Cat" series. Her first book, Orlando the Marmalade Cat: A Camping Holiday, was published in 1938. That book was followed by nearly twenty others, including the stories Orlando's Magic Carpet, Orlando's Invisible Pyjamas, and Henrietta's Magic Egg . Hale's writing was often based on events in her own life; whether she traveled, bought a farm, or watched man set foot on the moon, these experiences were conveyed on paper as her characters' lives, families, and adventures.
