The office of Advancement Vice President at Brigham Young University was established in 1992. The position is responsible for administering alumni and external relations, university communications, broadcasting, development, and athletics.
The Advancement Vice Presidency was established in 1992 as part of a reorganization of the Brigham Young University administration. Ronald G. Hyde, who had been serving as Executive Assistant to the President for Development and University Relations, was the first to be assigned the office. The office has administrative responsibility for the university's alumni and external relations, communications, athletics programs, and BYU Broadcasting. Advancement Vice Presidents have included Hyde (1992-1994), R. J. Snow (1994-1998), K. Fred Skousen (1998-2008), and Kevin J Worthen (2008- ).

Ronald Hyde was born on May 2, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho. He received a BS in business from the University of Idaho and a MS from Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1963. He began working at BYU in 1958 as the Alumni Fund Director. Other positions held at BYU include: executive director of the Alumni Association, assistant to the president for University Relations, executive assistant to the president, executive assistant to the president for development and university relations, and advancement vice president. He married Mary Helen Frampton and had four children.
