Olga Munk Haring was born in Ordea, Romania on August 25, 1917. She earned a B.A. (1932) at the Gymnasium of Budapest, an M.D. from the University of Vienna (1938) and another M.D. from the University of Leon in Nicaragua (1939). In 1949 she obtained an Assistance Etrangere in Cardiology from the Sorbonne.
After completing two appointments at the Chicago Medical School, Haring joined the Northwestern University faculty as assistant professor of medicine in 1965. Later that year she became director of the cardio-pulmonary-renal clinic at the Medical School. She was promoted to associate professor in 1970. In 1974 she became a full professor with a dual appointment in the departments of medicine and of community health and preventive medicine. She received emeritus status in 1987.
