Biographical History

Augustin Dominique Tureaud, born October 23, 1764, in La Rochelle, France. He fled San Domingo after a slave revolt, and moved to Baltimore where he sought to make his fortune in maritime trade. After a failed commercial voyage to Vera Cruz in 1801, Tureaud settled in New Orleans, marrying fourteen-year-old Elizabeth (Betzy) Louise Bringier in 1803 to solidify a partnership with her father, Marius Pons Bringier. Tureaud later became a judge in Acadia County, Louisiana.
