Biographical History

John Gordon Fowler (b. 1905, Chicago, Illinois-d. Dec. 1, 1971), Brigadier General in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from Advanced Flying School after finishing college and received his commission in 1929. During the 1930s, he served as a pilot and flying instructor at several bases in the U.S. and Hawaii. When World War II began, he was named assistant chief of staff for operations of the Anti-Submarine Command in New York City, then deputy chief of staff of the First Air Force. Later he activated the 314th Bomb Wing of the 20th Air Force and took it to the South Pacific, serving on Iwo Jima and Guam. After a number of domestic assignments, General Fowler became deputy for intelligence at Far East Air Forces Headquarters in Tokyo and was also a member of the UN Command Military Armistice Commission in Korea. He retired in 1959.
