Biographical History
The Southwest Regional Resource Center, known as the Rocky Mountain Regional Resource Center from 1970 to 1975, was sponsored by the University of Utah Department of Special Education and funded by the federal Department of Health, Education and Welfare. It was one of thirteen Regional Resource Centers across the United States and served the states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah as well as the Bureau of Indian Affairs Schools. Its purpose was to provide the capability for educational diagnosis of handicapped children and to help state educational agencies increase their intrastate capacities to serve handicapped students. Funding for the Regional Resource Center program ended in 1980.
