Biographical History

James McCann was born on the family ranch on People's Creek in the Bears Paw Mountains of Montana, on November 17, 1894, the older son of Paul and Caroline McCann. Originally the ranch was devoted to sheep, but later they raised cattle and then returned to sheep. In addition to ranching McCann served as president of the Montana Stockgrowers Association and director of the Montana Woolgrowers Association. He was also a Blaine County commissioner and was active in the Montana State University Agricultural Extension Service. McCann died May 31, 1975.
