Biographical History
Author and journalist Colin MacInnes was born in London; he lived in Australia with his mother and her second husband between 1920 and 1930. His novels feature heightened social awareness, comic effect, and overly earnest writing that often preached rather than dramatized themes.
Critic, essayist, novelist. Born in England, came to Australia in 1920, and was educated at Scots College, Melbourne. From 1930 to 1935, he was in business in Brussels. Studied painting in London. Served in the British Army from 1940-1945, then joined BBC Radio, Where he wrote 1500 radio scripts. Published his first book, To the Victors the Spoils, in 1950. He wrote nine novels, of which two are set in Australia: June in Her Spring (1952), and All Day Saturday (1966); also a biography of Sidney Nolan (1961), Australia and New Zealand (1964).
