Biographical History

Professor of Education, Cornell University.

Isabel Peard received her A.B. degree from the New York State Teachers College in Albany in 1932 and taught English in high schools in Montgomery and Millbrook, N.Y. She joined the U.S.O. Club in 1943 and served American troops as Program Director in San Luiz, Brazil and Club Director in Skagway, Alaska. She came to Cornell in 1946 as administrative assistant to the Dean of Women, and, in 1949, became director of the graduate training program in student personnel administration. She received her Ph.D. from Cornell in 1951 and was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Education in 1952. Her areas of expertise were philosophy of education and the education of prospective teachers of English. She retired in 1971 and died in 2004. A Cornell Tradition Fellowship was established in her name.
