Biographical History
Scottish minister and writer Alexander Webster was born and educated in Edinburgh. He served in Culross 1733-1737 before being appointed to his father's parish in Tolbooth, Edinburgh, where he became a popular preacher. He was an active leader in the Church of Scotland and a devoted Hanoverian, and acted as chaplain to Frederick, the Prince of Wales, and moderator of the general assembly. He was also a respected writer of prose and verse, and was commissioned to conduct the first census of Scotland in 1755.
