Biographical History
While Rev. Slettedahl was serving the newly formed Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kent he became acquainted with the settlers on the hill. He met with them at their first official congregational meeting and worked with the women in the community to form the Ladies’ Aid organization in 1901. These settlers met to formally organize the “Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Soos Creek, Washington” in 1903, and each man was elected to serve in some capacity. By October 4 of the same year the settlers were ready to build on land donated by Hans and Dorthea Moe, Kent’s first Norwegian settlers. The final additions in 1911 extended the building to the south for a Sunday School meeting room and to the rear for kitchen facilities. This building served the congregation until 1946.
