Biographical History
The University Club, formerly known as the Faculty Club, was a social organization for faculty on the Auburn campus. Members paid nominal dues.
In October of 1887 an invitation went out to certain men of Spokane Falls, Washington who were graduates of or had at least attended institutions of higher learning. The purpose for meeting was to organize a "University Club". There is no record of that meeting on October 22, 1887 or even that it was held. But interest on the part of several men continued and the Club was chartered on January 15, 1908. The objective of the Club, social and educational, was to establish a closer union of college and university men.
The University Club of New York is a private social club whose charter dates back to 1865.
