Biographical History

The Emergency Peace Federation, organized by George Foster Peabody, Louis P. Lochner, and Lella Secor Florence, was a hastily assembled peace coalition that sought to check the U.S. drift into World War I. It was to promote the idea of a lasting and durable peace and to encourage President Woodrow Wilson to mediate between warring nations. In July 1917 the Federation merged with the People's Council of America for Democracy and Peace.
