Biographical History
In 1873 Bishop Hale consecrated the first purpose-built Anglican Church, St James, at South Greenough. The first St Catherine's Church was a transportable timber and iron structure sent from England in 1892 and was located on Company Road. It was demolished in 1912. The present church, also St Catherine's, was built in 1913 near the administrative centre. The furniture, fittings and stained glass windows came from the original St Catherine's Church. Church of England services were held in Western Australia from the colony's inception in 1829. The Church of England in Australia was established in 1962 and, in 1981, became the Anglican Church of Australia.
