Biographical History
Lauritz Larsen (1882-1923) served as the NLC's first executive director from 1918 until his death in 1923. The son of well-known educational writer Peter L. Larsen, Larsen previously worked as the Washington office head of the National Lutheran Commission for Soldiers'and Sailors' Welfare. As NLC Executive Director, he played an instrumental role in the formation of the Lutheran World Convention and worked tirelessly to provide relief to European Lutherans living in areas devastated by WWI.
