Plumb family.

Frederick W. Plumb (1801-1877) and Huldah Seymour Landon Plumb (1806-1854) of Litchfield, Conn., had five children: John L. Plumb (1831-1906), Seth F. Plumb (1836-1864), Lemira E. Plumb (1838-1909), William H. Plumb (1840-1916), and Charles E. Plumb (1845-1913). Seth and William both served during the American Civil War. Seth was a member of the Eighth Regiment Infantry, Co. E. He enlisted in 1861, mustered as a sergeant, and reenlisted in January 1864. He was promoted to 1st sergeant in May 1864 and 2nd lieutenant in July 1864 (not mustered). He was killed 29 September 1864, at Fort Harrison, Va. His body was later returned for burial in Litchfield. The Litchfield post of the Grand Army of the Republic was named in his honor. William served in the Second Regiment Connecticut Volunteers Heavy Artillery, Co. A. He enlisted in 1862, was mustered as a private, and discharged in 1865. After the war, he was a farmer in Litchfield. He married first Emma T. Buell (1847-1882) and second Ellen A. Peck (1845-1916). Charles did not serve during the Civil War and became a travelling salesman, living for a period of years in Philadelphia and eventually settling in Harwich, Mass. He married first Emma L. Camp (1849-1914) and second Almira B. Underwood (1860-1905).
