Charles Downing Lay, landscape architect, painter, writer, etcher; New York, Stratford, Conn.; b. 9/3/1877, Newburgh, N.Y.; d. 2/15/1956
Charles D. Lay was the first student to receive a degree in LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE at Harvard University. He became the Landscape Architect for the City of New York and was one of the founders of the professional journal, Landscape Architecture.
