Biographical History

Arizona resident and poet.

Lou Ella Archer was born in 1891 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Although details of her life are sketchy and she considered Minnesota her home, it is known that she spent much time in Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona. During her years in Arizona in the 1930's, her publications Sonnets of the Southwest and Canyon Shadows were written, and she was involved in assisting Mexicans in the Phoenix area through her work for the "Friendly House". Following her marriage to Harold Elliott, she travelled in Europe and lived in New York and Washington, D.C. Her later years were evidently spent back in the Phoenix area as records indicate she was a volunteer at the Phoenix Center for the Blind and active in the American Society for the Control of Cancer. She died in 1968.

Lou Ella Archer was born July 18, 1891 at St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Archer. Although the available details of her life are sketchy, it is known that Archer spent much of her time in Tucson and Phoenix even though she considered Dellwood, Minnesota her home. Her publications Sonnets of the Southwest and Canyon Shadows were written during her years in Arizona in the 1930's. Archer was also involved in assisting Mexicans in the Phoenix area through her work for the Friendly House during this period.

Archer later married Harold Elliott and spent some time traveling in Europe and living in New York and Washington D.C. Her later years were evidently spent in the Phoenix area, as extant records indicate that she was a volunteer at the Phoenix Center for the Blind and a State Commander of Arizona for the American Society for the Control of Cancer. Lou Ella Archer Elliott passed away in 1968.
