Biographical History

Hickey (born on Feb. 15, 1817 in Palmyra, NY and died on April 25, 1897 in Coldwater, MI) was a prominent preacher and leader of the Strangite Mormon Church following the death of James Jesse Strang. A polygamist, he married at least three wives, Mrs. Ann Davis, on Dec. 9, 1841, with whom he had three children; Francis Miller, with whom he had three children; and Sarah Ann Linnell (born on Nov. 11, 1834) with whom he had ten children. A fourth wife may have died in childbirth. (For further information on Hickey, see John Cumming's well researched article entitled "Lorenzo Dow Hickey: the last of the twelve", in Michigan History Magazine, v. 50, 1966.).
